Abu Dhabi - Mubasher: Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum have started commercial gas sales from the KM250 expansion at the Khor Mor facility in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, delivered eight months ahead of schedule.

The expansion adds 250 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf/d) of capacity, increasing total output by 50% to 750 MMscf/d, according to a press release.

Meanwhile, the additional volume will help meet Iraq’s growing power demand and support 24-hour electricity generation across the country.

The $1.10 billion KM250 was financed through the Bank of Sharjah, the US International Development Finance Corporation, and proceeds from Pearl Petroleum’s $350 million bond.

At peak construction, the project employed more than 10,000 people. It involved over 6,000 tons of steel and 6.20 million man-hours, making it one of Iraq’s largest recent private-sector infrastructure developments.

Majid Jafar, CEO of Crescent Petroleum and Board Managing Director of Dana Gas, said: “This accomplishment highlights our ongoing dedication to the Kurdistan region of Iraq, demonstrates our capacity to unlock its vast energy resources, and reinforces our commitment to generating jobs, enhancing local services, and providing cleaner, more reliable energy for the region and the country.”

For his part, Richard Hall, CEO of Dana Gas, added: “The additional capacity strengthens our production profile and is expected to deliver substantial annual revenue for Dana Gas. It also supports our mission to deliver stable, cleaner energy to KRI communities, reduce diesel dependence and advance the region’s ambition for 24-hour electrification.”

KM250 will also produce 7,000 barrels of condensate and 460 tons of LPG daily, boosting current output levels. It also features advanced technology to enhance efficiency and cut emissions.

Operated by Pearl Petroleum, the Khor Mor field supplies over 80% of the Kurdistan Region’s power, serving more than six million people.

With 85% national employment and over 20,000 jobs created, it has supported economic growth while avoiding 59 million tons of CO2 emissions.

During the January-June 2025 period, Dana Gas registered an annual climb of 1% in net profits to $73 million, compared to $72 million.
